We can see that they were there as early as late October, 1892, and that they stayed through the summer, at least until Sept. 6, 1893. Mary was the record keeper for the family bacause already, in his 50's, JM was going blind. There were often skips of months and years between entries. Mary may have kept more regular records somewhere else, but only a few small books survived. My brother, Bob, pulled this ledger out of a fireplace where unwanted papers were being burned when the George McCutchen's moved from the Yacolt house. |
